5 BIGGEST CONCERNS EVERY NEW MOM HAS BEFORE HER FIRST CLASS

We get it. Trying something new can be daunting, and kind of intimidating. Add a new baby, or a couple of kids - and it seems impossible. But there is no time like the present. Putting yourself out there is the first step - no matter how scary that may seem!

Here are the top 5 biggest concerns we hear AND have experienced ourselves. (Remember, our team members are all moms, and all came to their first class once too). We also share a few tips to combat any concerns you may have.

“Class is right in the middle of nap time”

Oh boy, if we had a dollar every time we heard that one…We get it. You followed Moms on Call, or Taking Cara Babies. You’ve mastered the four month sleep regression and wake windows. Those naptimes are sacred! But here’s what is just as important, if not more: taking care of yourself.

And if that means a slight disruption to naptime, it is ok! Seriously. Take it from me. You and your kid(s) will benefit more from the friendships, movement, fresh air, and getting out the house, than the extra nap time.

Here’s what you can do:

Put the baby down for an earlier cat nap after morning feedings, wake him/her up 30 minutes before it’s time to leave for class. Feed, change, and load up the car!

Alternatively, grab the morning nap on the go! A portable sound machine and pacifier goes a long way. If you’re open to giving the stroller nap a go, arrive to class a few minutes early, load the baby in the stroller and walk for a few minutes before class starts. The fresh air and movement usually sends little pens straight to sleep. From there you can join us and let your baby snooze during class. Sometimes the timing works out perfectly and they wake up right as we’re finishing.

If all else fails, consider wearing a baby carrier, being close to mom will sometimes be just what baby needs to fall asleep. All our instructors can give modifications during class if you're babywearing.

“I’m out of shape and everyone will be more fit than me. I’m worried the workout will be too hard.”

Our classes are for all fitness levels and all stages of motherhood. Instructors always provide a variety of options for moms who want to build up strength and endurance, or to honor how you're feeling that day...tired from your toddler's most recent sleep regression, we get it! We also offer modifications for all trimesters of pregnancy, diastasis recti, and other injuries (remember every Instructor is certified in prenatal and postnatal fitness). You will find moms of all fitness levels, walking, jogging, and running as she may need. Or perhaps you had a really active pregnancy, or are you further postpartum and worried you won’t get enough of a workout with your little one tagging along? One of the best things about FIT4MOM is that our workouts serve every mom, at every stage. Every workout is scalable to what you need, and our instructors know how to progress exercises for you so you feel like you’re getting the workout that YOU need. Every mom leaves our workout feeling strong, empowered, and energized!

“What if my baby gets hungry during class?”

Easy. Feed your baby! Typically there is a bench nearby, or you can roll your exercise mat out and take a seat. We’ve all been there! Even if you miss some of the workout it’s better than no workout at all. You’re surrounded by other moms, so they totally get it. And you still got out of the house and got to meet other moms. Also, remember that you'll be surrounded by moms, so they get it!

"What if my baby is fussy during class? Or “My child won’t stay in a stroller for an hour”

Guess what? So are other people’s kids. Seriously! We've all been there. Every kid has a bad day sometimes (or more than just sometimes!). You’re in the company of kind and supportive moms who are always eager to help because they know exactly what you’re going through.

Our team has a few tricks up their sleeves to keep the kids happy and entertained during class - songs, bubbles, books, stickers, and more! Snacks are your best friend. And small toys and books are perfect for little hands. You’d be surprised how much fun the kids have during class - and they love to end class by getting out and singing our Smile song which we sing at the conclusion of every class.

Do know that babywearing is always an option! Instructors can give modifications during class if you’re babywearing. You’ll still get a full body workout in, and your little one may find more comfort being close to you.

"I’m afraid everyone knows each other and I’ll be walking into a group of friends."

Yes, there is some truth that you’re walking into a group that knows each other. But you won’t find a more welcoming and inclusive community of moms than FIT4MOM. We understand that making mom friends can be HARD.

At the start of every class, we kick off warmup with an icebreaker question. You’ll learn other moms’ names, their kids’ names and ages, and it gets the conversation started.

The good news? Our classes are full of moms who were once scared to take that first step, just like you. The even better news? They kept coming back, found their village, and developed a true community - one that is waiting for you to join!

The best way to take care of your family is to take care of yourself. And nothing should keep you from the opportunity to do something for you. Come try a class this week, click here to grab yourself a free class pass.
