MELISSA COMIBRA

I’ve always loved running for the way it clears my mind and connects me with nature. My passion for it started in the soccer field and cross country trail running in Vermont. Over the years, I’ve run numerous 5ks, ran the annual 5.2 miler brew run in Brewster, MA for 15 consecutive years and completed three half marathons—Atlanta, GA; Brooklyn, NY; and Newport, RI. Each experience left me feeling stronger and more accomplished. Running has a therapeutic aspect that I cherish, and I love that it’s something I can do outdoors, with my kids often by my side (or harnessing the wind in front of me). My running journey and goals have changed over time (as my body has healed from multiple injuries including a spinal cord sprain, and 4 pregnancies) but what hasn’t changed is the mental clarity it brings, when my feet are “percussioning” outside, moving freely through nature. The feeling of setting and achieving a goal, whether big or small, is incredibly empowering. That’s why I’m so excited to bring Run Club+ to other moms—running is more than just exercise; it’s a way to nurture both body and mind while feeling part of a supportive community.

I was one of those people that hated running. I used to joke that I would only run if a wild animal was chasing me. Then I had two amazing boys, became a mostly stay at home mom, and kind of lost myself in the process. So I decided to do something completely insane….. register for a 10k. I can vividly remember my first run at age 35. It was June, super hot, insanely humid, and it felt terrible for the entire mile. Then it was over and I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. I committed to six months of running and by the time I ran my 10k I was hooked. Fast forward numerous 5k, 10k, 10milers, half marathons, and 2 marathons I am still in love with running. It’s my peace. It’s something that I can always come back to. Running reminds me that anything is possible.
